CFIA Labelling Guide for Products Consisting Solely of Peat or Similar Materials

Products consisting solely of:

  • Peat

  • Peat moss

  • Sphagnum moss

  • Coconut coir

  • Tree Bark

  • Perlite

  • Vermiculite

Are required to be labelled with:

  • Name of the product

  • A statement indicating the materials present, along with proportions

    • A narrow range of proportions is acceptable to accommodate for moisture level fluctuations.

  • A statement setting out any precaution that is necessary to mitigate a risk of harm to human, animal or plant health or the environment

  • Name and address of person who packaged the product

  • Volume or weight of the product

  • Lot number
