OMRI - High Nitrogen Liquid Fertilizers
OMRI inspection requirements for facilities that produce High Nitrogen Liquid Fertilizer (HNLF) products with over 3% nitrogen now differentiate between those that are able to be produced on a commercial scale and those that lack the facility infrastructure to do so. All HNLF products are subject to the requirements of NOP Guidance 5012. Products produced in facilities with complete infrastructure will have the standard statement “this product has been inspected and approved for use in NOP organic production by OMRI.” on the product certificate. “This product has been inspected but is not being produced for commercial use and should not be available in the stream of commerce.” will appear on products certificates with inspection sites under long-term shutdown or with incomplete infrastructure.
Facilities Lacking Commercial Production Capabilities
Applies to:
- companies building new facility infrastructure
- companies lacking commercial production capabilities
For companies building new facility infrastructure this will allow the product to remain listed with OMRI during construction. Progress updates will be required but there will no longer be a specific timeline to complete the manufacturing infrastructure. An inspection will be required before the certificate is updated to the standard statement.
Inspection Procedures:
- one annual on-site inspection focused on verifying the last production and confirming facility and infrastructure updates
- desk-audit
- written request for information and updates on an annual basis.
The inspection fees for HNLF products will remain the same, whether the products are being produced commercially or not.
Companies are still responsible for reporting changes to OMRI at least 60 days in advance including changes to:
- product formulation
- process controls
- production status
- facility infrastructure
